A new floating mosque is set to open in Dubai this year.
Dubai's Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) plans to build a floating mosque on the Dubai Canal by 2024. The mosque is designed to have three floors, with the third floor underwater and a submerged prayer hall that can accommodate up to 75 worshippers. The other two floors will have halls for Islamic lectures and workshops and indoor and outdoor seating areas for men and women. The project is part of Dubai's initiative to promote religious tourism and will cost around Dhs55 million.
The mosque will be an 'important attraction' for people of all faiths. Visitors are expected to dress modestly and behave respectfully. Although the exact opening date is unknown, it is expected to open soon.
