E-scooters are no longer allowed on the Dubai Metro and tram

As of Friday, March 1st, the Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai (RTA) has banned the use of e-scooters on the metro and tram due to safety concerns. Previously, it was common to see commuters carrying foldable e-scooters on board, but the RTA has now put a stop to this practice. The reason cited for the ban is the safety of both riders and others on board public transport. The authority has emphasized their commitment to safety with the hashtag #YourSafetyOurPriority.

While the ban does prohibit the use of e-scooters on board, the RTA has stated that electric scooters will still be allowed inside metro stations if they are folded and safety instructions are followed. This means that commuters can still use e-scooters to get to and from metro stations, but they must be folded and carried in accordance with safety rules.

The decision to ban e-scooters on the metro and tram comes after an incident earlier this year where smoke was found coming out of an electric scooter at the Onpassive metro station. The incident caused lengthy delays and highlighted the potential safety risks associated with e-scooters on public transport.
