In the first half of the year, Korea's exports of memory chips to Taiwan increased by over 225 percent compared to the same period last year. This surge was driven by strong demand for high-performance high bandwidth memory (HBM) products, which was in turn fueled by the rapid growth of the global artificial intelligence (AI) market.

Data released on Sunday showed that the outbound shipments of memory chips to Taiwan amounted to $4.26 billion, marking a substantial increase from the previous year. This growth significantly outpaced Korea's overall increase in memory chip exports, which stood at 88.7 percent. According to data compiled by the industry ministry and the Korea International Trade Association, as reported by The Korea Times, Taiwan emerged as the third-largest importer of Korean memory chips in the first half of this year. Notably, Taiwan climbed two spots to surpass both Vietnam and the United States in terms of importing Korean memory chips.
