The first electric tug in the Middle East for the Marine Services fleet is being trialed by 'SAFEEN'.
SAFEEN Group, a part of AD Ports Group, has announced that it is conducting a trial of an electric tug within their Marine Services fleet. This tug is the first of its kind in the Middle East and will be deployed at AD Ports Group’s main facility, Khalifa Port.
During the 27th International Tug & Salvage Convention, Exhibition & Awards 2024 in Dubai, the Damen RSD-E Tug 2513 was unveiled. This all-electric harbor tug is expected to offer several advantages. These include zero emissions from "Tank to Propeller", operational efficiency due to its 70-ton bollard pull capable of handling the largest vessels, and cost-effectiveness resulting from lower maintenance costs compared to diesel-powered tugs.
Captain Ammar Mubarak Al Shaiba, CEO of the Maritime & Shipping Cluster at AD Ports Group, stated, "Implementing electric tugs into our operations aligns with our local and global ambitions for greener maritime operations. AD Ports Group’s commitment to a sustainable future is underscored by adopting such technologies, contributing to the overall reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the maritime sector."During the 27th International Tug & Salvage Convention, Exhibition & Awards 2024 in Dubai, the Damen RSD-E Tug 2513 was unveiled.
